DUG BAR, OR

Dug bar is a relatively long airstrip situated on the edge of the Snake. Folks willing to make a long drive from Joseph Oregon could camp or use the public boat ramp just below the strip.  However,  it appears few are willing to make the drive, so once you land here, chances are you won't see many other visitors.

This strip has gotten a MAJOR facelift since the picture of the runway in the "Photos" section. The thresholds are marked with LARGE white rocks, there is a windsock, the fences are maintained to keep livestock out, and the runway was very nicely mowed. My flying partner and I almost didn't recognize it! No one came out to greet us, but we saw people on quads on the road a couple miles out. I think the forest service complex is being used again and maintaining the strip. You could take a larger/heavy airplane in here. It is very nice.
