SANDY RIVER, OR

Flying up the North Santiam to check river levels for rafting. I stumbled upon a secret little airstrip. After this flight I landed and dug up some info on the internet about the little airstrip and it's owner. I called the number and was told that I could land there in the future! So, definitely going to fly in there sometime soon!

This is the flight when I decided I better buy an attitude indicator. There is no telling when the clouds can suddenly drop, making even MVFR flight impossible.

The Sandy River Airport is a short grass runway with trees at the end of it but a cliff off the right side, so the best way to takeoff is to fly over the cliff to dodge the trees. This video is right after we got off the ground as we turn out over the cliff.
This takeoff is a bit scary, but its gorgeous. It felt like I was in a nature documentary.

My review of Sandy River airport (03S), in Oregon.
We landed and, took off on Runway 26.
It's a nice, 2115 X 100 feet grass runway.
As it's usual, in PNW, there are lots of tall trees around and, attention must be taken. It is easy to setup for a long final approach , this will help with the unusual visuals as, the airport is set on a plateau, above the Sandy River and, below the town of Sandy.
This is a worthy airport to visit and, friendly people will greet you.
I will continue to visit iteresting airports and, attempt at creating valuable content.
